Flying Solo

I read an interesting book last night – Flying Solo by Ralph Fletcher.  I wanted to read Flying Solo because I’ve always admired Fletcher’s books about how to teach writing.  He is a wonderful teacher of teachers.

This book, written for kids between the ages of 10 and 12, is the story of a group of kids who, when their substitute teacher is a no-show, decide not to let anyone know and to run the class themselves.  The story weaves together both the decisions they make and a number of personal issues stemming from the deaht of one of their classmates six months before the story takes place.

It’s a short, but thought provoking book, and definitely one I will add to Inly’s summer reading list.

  1. that involves humour. Rowling admits she could be writing
the further wizarding adventures of ‘Harry Potter. But the one prize they still seek is the one most valuable to Voldemort: Harry Potter.
