For two weeks each year, during Inly’s fall and spring book fairs, I get to “play store.” As enjoyable as it is, I’m always happy to return to loaning books for free! The best part of the book fair is listening to kids talk with their parents about what they want to read and to see them opening their new books as they walk out the door. Here are a few of my favorite moments from the week:
This 5-year-old child was looking at books in the middle school selection. When I went to check on her, she expressed curiosity about a few of the books: Here’s our exchange:
Me: Maybe we could look at some books in a different section. Some of these may be a bit scary for you.
Her: They’re not scary if you can’t read the words!
A good point.
This picture was not posed. I looked over and this is exactly what I saw – one of those moments when I was happy to have my phone handy!
These are a few of the questions I was asked this week:
– “Do you have any books about kids exactly like me?”
– “Do you like Legos or Pokemon better?”
– “Why do you have books about brides? I don’t care about that!”
And these were the best selling titles:
Extra Yarn by Mac Barnett
Mercy Watson books by Kate DiCamillo
The Critter Club by Callie Barkley
Lego Ninjago books
The Secret Zoo by Bryan Chick
Percy Jackson books by Rick Riordan
Wonder by R.J. Palacio
The first thing on my list for next week is to ask a student what a Ninjago is!!
