School has begun which means I spend the day talking with kids who really do, as the old TV show said, say “the darndest things.” I was talking with a first grade boy and his father today. At one point, the father mentioned an upcoming business trip, and I asked the boy what his father does for work. His response: “He travels around the world and collects money.” Good work if you can get it – especially the traveling part.
If by some chance, when he said his father “collects money,” he meant he is a rare coin dealer, I have two books for this student to check-out:
Lots and Lots of Coins by Margarette S. Reid (a fun and brightly colored book about coins – their history, the faces on the “head” side, and a cool illustration of the state quarters)
Cool Coins: Creating Fun and Fascinating Collections by Pam Scheunemann (part of a series about collections)
