How awesome is it that Gregor Mendel was born during Pea Season! This morning I saw Google’s cool Mendel birthday banner, and remembered that I ate the first pea out of our backyard garden just yesterday. This is the perfect day to read Gregor Mendel: The Friar Who Grew Peas by Cheryl Bardoe.
Bardoe’s picture book biography describes the father of genetic’s experiments with cross-breeding and the challenges he faced from the 19th century scientific community. The book is beautiful – pea green watercolors by Jos A. Smith brighten every page. Peas for dinner tonight!
