I wrote a post last week about books for the “recycling native.” I love all of the books on that list, but of course, two days later I saw a new book that should be added to that list – probably in the top spot! Allan Drummond’s new picture book, Energy Island: How One Community Harnessed the Wind and Changed Their World. The book “feels” like the wind, if that makes any sense. It’s energetic and bracing.
Energy Island is about a windy Danish Island, Samso, whose “ordinary” citizens decide to become energy-independent. And, largely because of the passion of one school teacher, they make it happen. It’s such an inspiring story that it made me want to visit town hall and see if there are plans for Scituate to have its own 21st century windmills.
