Two of the new books in our school book fair begin with the number 3, and so today’s Three for Thursday was only one book short. But since one of my favorite picture books includes the word “three,” I had three books to feature.
Three Little Kittens by Jerry Pinkney – Following his Caldecott-winning interpretation of The Lion and the Mouse, The Three Little Kittens is Pinkney’s version of another classic tale. I had forgotten all about the story of the kittens who lost their mittens and it’s nice to re-visit the familiar rhyme. Put this one aside for a winter day when your own children have misplaced their mittens. It’s lovely.
3 Little Dassies by Jan Brett – Brett’s new book is The Three Little Pigs in a southern African setting. A Dassie, I learned, is a small mammal, and these dassie sisters wear the most colorful clothes.I’d like the yellow dress with blue circles in my size! The wolf in this tale is an eagle. As you might expect, all ends well.
The Three Little Pigs by David Wiesner – I’ve looked at this book hundreds of times and still marvel at how creative and totally cool it is.
The book fair closes at 4:00 today. Business is brisk – back to my temporary life in the retail sector…
