“The original drawing for the cover of Charlotte’s Web will go on sale Oct. 15.
The work, drawn by Garth Montgomery Williams in 1952, is graphite and ink on paper.
Also included in the lot are two 9 x 8 inch hand-colored production pieces of the cover design and a 14 x 16.5 inch photostat production drawing of a web used to create the end paper design for the book. Almost all of the interior illustrations are included as well. All items are being sold by the Garth Williams estate.
The sale is part of Heritage Auctions New York City’s Signature Illustration Art Auction, the first sale to be held by Heritage’s New York branch.
