This past Friday (July 2), an hour of WBUR’s On Point radio program was devoted to a discussion of summer books for kids. I wasn’t able to listen “live” on Friday, but I did begin my Independence Day by tuning in on-line. There were three terrific guests: Monica Edinger, a blogger (Educating Alice) and teacher at New York City’s Dalton School; the author Esme Raji Codell; and Pete Cowdin from the Reading Reptile, a children’s bookstore in Kansas City.
The lists are a good mix of books by well-known authors and books to be discovered. If you don’t have time to listen to the show, go to the WBUR website where you can find a list of each guest’s summer picks. One book the show brought to my attention is Orangutans Are Ticklish: Fun Facts from an Animal Photographer by Jill Davis. It’s a behind-the-scenes book about how animal photographs are taken, and after reading more about it, I’m predicting this will be a popular book in the Inly Library next year.
