I have this cool new app on my iPhone that allows me to make ice cream sundaes with a variety of sauces and toppings.  My son and I think the coolest element is that when you “eat” the cone, it makes a crunching sound.  So much fun for zero calories!  Anyway, between the app and these 90 degree days, ice cream is on my mind.

These three books are perfect for young children on a hot day – best enjoyed with a large scoop covered in chocolate sprinkles!

Ice Cream: The Full Scoop by Gail Gibbons  (Gibbons breaks things down for young readers like no one else.  This one provides a step-by-step explanation of the ice cream process from cow to cone.)

Frog and Toad All Year by Arnold Lobel (I may have written about ice cream partly to write about my favorite Frog and Toad story. It’s called Ice Cream and is included in this volume of their adventures.  It is guaranteed to make a child – and you – laugh.)

The Sundae Scoop by Stuart J. Murphy  (This book does double duty.  It’s a math concept book which uses ice cream sundaes to convey the lesson.  Each of Murphy’s 63 book is a complete story and a complete math lesson.)
