Oops…I was so excited to write about The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate yesterday that I missed my weekly plug for over-looked books. For those of you who missed my “rant” last Thursday, it was basically calling attention to the fact that kids get stuck in these reading ruts (like adults) which causes them to be blind to everything outside of fairy/robot/snakes/princess, etc. books. I will endeavor each Thursday to suggest a few other books that might capture their attention.
This week’s books are for readers in the 6-9 category:
It’s a Deal, Dogboy by Christine McDonnell (the summer adventures of a third – about to be fourth – grade boy)
Iris and Walter by Elissa Haden Guest (a series of gentle stories about two friends)
Kidnap at the Catfish Cafe (Minnie and Max) by Patricia Reilly Giff (a junior detective and her cat solve a mystery at Minnie’s brother’s cafe)
