The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate is the 2013 Newbery Award winner! My fingers were crossed until about one hour ago and so it’s hard to type, but it was so worth it! Applegate’s beautiful novel is going to be one of those books treasured by generations of readers. I’m going to start reading it again tonight. This is Not My Hat by Jon Klassen won the Caldecott Medal. Here’s the link to the American Library Association’s press release announcing all of the winners:

In other news….Kate DiCamillo’s new book, Flora and Ulysses: The Illuminated Adventures, will be published in September. It’s a novel with graphic sequences – about a girl and a squirrel.
